‘Tis the season …

For years we did the combat shopping thing to get all the foraging done while working full time and wrangling a couple of school age boys. Now I have the luxury of shopping in small bursts whenever I feel like it, and taking a leisurely walk to get it done rather than battling the traffic and shoe-horning the entire performance in to the over-crowded timetable of the school years.

One of the great pleasures that this brings is seasonal shopping – not the “put the Christmas things out in September to make people buy more” nonsense, but the buying fruits and vegetables that are actually, properly in season.

Like these gorgeous tomatoes that popped up as the seasonal special at the local greengrocer today. A few dollars worth is going to look like a million bucks of flavour after being slow roasted.
